Not only must you complete a quest to get started, but you must collect everything necessary to fully upgrade the weapons. Knowing where to go can be difficult, so having a guide will make the process easier. Ensure you take some time to collect everything while also getting the necessary gold.
You can't perform all the upgrades until you have access to every area, so beware spoilers as you use this guide.

Getting Gold And Bladestones
Some weapons have repeating items, such as the Bladestones and Mysterious Fragments.
You get these items by defeating unique monsters, opening containers, and finding relics. You’ll need to play through the game to get all of them, and you’ll naturally come across them as you explore the world.
If you need additional help, fully upgrade the X-Reader to track everything. The X-Reader has a good range, so you'll find the items if you search the map.
After you collect those items, you’ll need to get 777,200 gold to fully upgrade the weapons. Luckily, getting money remains easy in this game. If you're running low on funds, try the following tips to help you get enough money.
- Fight unique monsters repeatedly.
- Completing multiple quests and collecting the rewards.
- Selling accessories and items you don’t need at a shop.
You can sell accessories for their original value and purchase them at the same amount, so you won’t lose gold if you need to sell first and then buy them again later.
Don’t worry about getting enough gold now since it’ll add up as you collect items. If you ever run low, follow the points above to help you make money quickly.
As you collect the repeat and standard items for your weapons, you’ll want to utilize a guide to help you find specific things to save some time. You can also encounter these items from other enemies throughout the game, so watch for them.
You’ll need access to various landmarks to reach these areas. Check out the Landmarks and Secret Areas guide if you need help.

Swim south past the first island, and you'll encounter the fish swimming in front of the second island. It's on the larger island on the west side of the lake, but not the small one farthest to the east.
